Verses (6/27/10)

Jeff didn't die in a blaze of fire,
Nor did Candy in her slow demise.
We learn upon the tightrope wire.
Age fails to make the old man wise.

Water-hyacinths crawl down river,
choke swift passage to the trading-post.
Aboriginal poison arrows quiver
once before they strike the host.

Fiefdoms built on garbage piles
walled in concrete and barbed wire
can repel the wannabes for miles,
all to suffer cancerous internal fire.

Sargasso seas and private junks
large as islands, with online banks,
Ski resorts in hotel lobbies:
Artists' colonies requiring tanks.
